Mixing Desk

Common questions
How do I get my recordings into the app?
Open the timeline, tap + and choose Import Audio…. Pick one file or several from the Files app; each becomes a channel.
A stereo file can come in as one stereo channel or as two mono channels, left and right. The app asks when you pick one.
Everything is converted once, on import, to the project's own format. That takes a moment for long files and is why playback never drifts afterwards.
I bought Mix Down. How do I check, or restore it on a new phone?
Tap the menu ☰ at the top left of the mixer or the timeline and choose About & Support. The first section says whether Mix Down is unlocked.
If it is not and you have already paid, tap Restore Purchase on the same page. You need to be signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with. It is one payment, not a subscription, and you are never charged twice.
What does the free version leave out?
Only saving the finished mix as a file. Every channel, bus, effect and plugin, recording, automation and as many projects as you like are free. Mix Down is the one thing you pay for, and you can decide with the finished mix in front of you.
Where are my mixdowns, and how do I get them off the phone?
Tap the project's name at the top of the screen, open the menu on that page and choose Mixdowns. Tap one to play it; swipe it, or touch and hold, to share or delete it.
The app's folder also appears in the Files app under On My iPhone, so you can copy files in and out directly.
How do I use plugins?
Open Processing on a channel, group, effects return or the master and go to the Plug tab. Each strip has four slots, in the order the signal runs through them.
Tap Add a plugin to choose one. They are filed by what they do: Dynamics, Tone, Space and Modulation. Star the ones you reach for and they appear first.
Seventeen effects come with the app. Any Audio Unit (AUv3) effect you have installed from the App Store appears alongside them. Instrument plugins are not hosted.
A plugin of mine does not appear, or says it failed.
Open the plugin's own app once after installing it; iOS only offers an Audio Unit to other apps after that. If it still does not appear, restart your device.
A plugin that reports an error is taken out of the signal path and its row says so, so the channel keeps playing without it. Removing and adding it again reloads it.
How do I record?
Open a channel's menu on its strip and choose Arm for recording. The first time, iOS asks for microphone access. Then press record on the transport.
With an audio interface connected you can arm as many channels as it has inputs, and each records its own input.
To hear yourself while recording, plug in headphones. Monitoring through the built-in speaker is switched off on purpose, because it feeds back.
There is no sound, or the sound stopped after a call.
Check the ring/silent switch and volume, then that no channel is soloed: a Clear Solo button appears on the mixer when one is.
If another app or a phone call took the audio, bring Mixing Desk back to the front and press play. If it stays quiet, close the app fully and reopen it. Your project is saved automatically.
Can I link two mono channels as a stereo pair?
Yes. Open the channel's menu on its strip and choose Link with… the channel beside it. The faders, mutes and solos then move together and the pans mirror. EQ and dynamics stay separate per side; for one compressor across both, route the pair to a group.
I made a mistake. Can I go back?
Undo is on the transport bar whenever there is something to undo, and it steps back through edits, deletes and plugin changes. Projects are saved automatically as you work, and Snapshots let you name a state of the whole desk and return to it.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone and iPad on a recent version of iOS; the App Store page lists the exact requirement. Turn an iPhone sideways on the mixer for a view that is all faders.

Write to support@kernowlabs.com. The quickest way is from inside the app: ☰ then About & Support then Email Support, which fills in your version and device for you.
It helps to say what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot is worth a paragraph.
